Proof Gold £2 – Olympic Handover 2008
Description This Proof gold £2 coin, dated 2008, was to commemorate the Olympic Games handover ceremony from Beijing to London. Following tradition, athletes and flag bearers from each country entered the stadium. The national flag of Greece, as well as the host country (Beijing) and the new host country (London), were hoisted. After the closing speeches, the Olympic Flag was passed to the Mayor of London from the Mayor of Beijing. The Olympic Flame was extinguished and the Olympic Flag was carried ceremonially from the stadium. The reverse of this £2 gold coin features the Olympic Flag being passed, along with the London 2012 Logo, surrounded by the inscription “BEIJING 2008”, “LONDON 2012”. The obverse of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This coin comes in a plastic capsule with original Royal Mint boxes and certificate of authenticity. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) Free and VAT free.
