The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of Mexico, surrounded by historical Mexican coats of arms on the obverse. The Mexican coats of arms is based on an Aztec legend. The legend goes that the Aztec people would know where to build their city when they first saw an Eagle eating a snake above a lake.
