The South African Krugerrand was first produced in 1967 by the South African Chamber of Mines. Over many decades the gold coin became one of the most popular bullion coins chosen by investors. After its original productions and subsequent success, the Krugerrand galvanised many other mints to produce a bullion coin of equal standing. In 2017, the one ounce silver Krugerrand was minted for the first time to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the gold coin’s original release and has been issued every year since.
