Description Half ounce gold Britannia 22ct coins are preowned. The first Britannia was minted in 1987, with a face value of £50. Pre-2013 Britannias are 22ct and contain half a troy ounce of gold. In 2013 the Royal Mint decided to produce the half ounce gold Britannia in 24ct, as opposed to 22ct. The actual gold content of pre-2013 gold Britannias remains the same however.
