George V Gold Sovereign Mintmark Collection
Description This George V Gold Sovereign Mintmark Collection consists of 7 individual gold sovereigns, one from the Royal Mint and the remainder from each of the Royal Mint international branches. George V reigned during a turbulent era for the Royal family and Great Britain. He reigned throughout World War I and during the Great Depression. Thus, the production of the George V sovereign coins were sporadic and does not span the duration of his reign. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. The initials ‘BP’ can be found on the base under the hoof of the horse. The obverse of the coin features the portrait of George V. The branch mints can be identified by a small mint mark, shown beneath St. George and the Dragon. This set features 1912 London, 1918 Bombay (I), 1911 Ottawa (C), 1927 Pretoria (SA), 1913 Melbourne (M), 1911 Sydney (S) and 1917 Perth (P). Each coin comes in a plastic capsule, along with the original Royal Mint box, informative booklet and certificate of authenticity. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free.
