Five Coin Sovereign Set – George V – WW1
Description This five coin sovereign set, brings together 5 historic sovereigns struck in each year of the First World War, 1914 (L), 1915 (M), 1916 (S), 1917 (O) and 1918 (B). These coins were originally struck at The Royal Mint or one of its overseas branches. The branch mints can be identified by a small mint mark, shown beneath St. George and the Dragon. George V Gold Sovereign coins were minted by the Royal Mint between the years 1911-1932. George V reigned during a turbulent era for the Royal family and Great Britain. He reigned throughout World War I and during the Great Depression. Thus, the production of the [George V Sovereign](https://www.atsbullion.com/product/george-v-sovereign/) coins were sporadic and does not span the duration of his reign. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. The initials ‘BP’ can be found on the base under the hoof of the horse. The obverse of the coin features the portrait of George V. Each coin comes in a plastic capsule within a wooden presentation box. Please note the coins within this set are bullion and not Proof or Brilliant Uncirculated. These coins are preowned.
