Elizabeth II Decimal Sovereign (1974-1982)
Description Elizabeth II Decimal Gold Sovereign coins were minted between the years of 1974 and 1982. The coins feature the second likeness of the Queen to have appeared on a Sovereign. The change in design coincided with the currency decimalisation process in 1971, although no sovereigns were released between 1971 and 1973. The reverse displays Benedetto Pistrucci’s design of St. George and the Dragon. Elizabeth II Decimal Gold Sovereign coins are minted in 22ct gold and have been so since the original “modern” design was issued in 1817. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
