Edward VII Half Sovereign
Description Edward VII Half Sovereign coins were minted between the years of 1902 and 1910. King Edward ruled for only a short time, just eight years. He was the first monarch that embraced the idea of Royal public appearances and was noted by J.B. Priestly as being “the King England has known since the earlier 1660s”. He was also colloquially known as the “peacemaker”. This coin displays the portrait of King Edward VII and on the reverse, Benedetto Pistrucci’s design of St. George and the Dragon. Edward VII Half Sovereign coins are minted in 22ct gold and have been so since the original “modern” design was issued in 1817. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
