Cuban 10 Pesos
Description The Cuban 10 Pesos (Diez Pesos), featuring José Martí, were produced by the United States Mint of Philadelphia, on behalf of Cuba. The coins had a short mintage of 1915-1916. In Cuban history, José Martí was considered a national hero. He was the leader of the Cuban Revolutionary Party and he played a key role in the Cuban War of Independence against Spain. He died on the battlefield on the island in 1895. The obverse of the coin features the Cuban coat of arms, within a laurel wreath. The reverse of the 10 pesos coin features the portrait of José Martí and the motto ‘Patria y Libertad’ which translates to ‘Fatherland and Freedom’. If the holder spins the coin by 180 degrees, the opposite side of the coin will appear upside down. These coins are preowned.
