Collector Services Gold Sovereign – QEII Pre-Decimal 1966
Description QEII Pre-Decimal Gold Sovereign dated 1966, uncirculated condition. The Royal Mint developed Collector Services, with their knowledge from more than 1100 years of minting. This service helps customers buy, authenticate and look after historic coins. With this, there is a deeper understanding of the coins, information about when they were struck and the grade and condition. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. The initials ‘BP’ can be found on the base under the hoof of the horse. The obverse of the coins feature a portrait of the young Queen, aged just 26 at her accession. Pre-decimal sovereign coins were minted between the years of 1957 and 1968. The 1966 coin comes in a plastic capsule, sealed in original Royal Mint packaging and a Collector Services certificate of authenticity. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and VAT free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
