Brilliant Uncirculated Gold £5 – 2005
Description This Brilliant Uncirculated Gold £5, also known as the Quintuple Sovereign, is dated 2005. Brilliant Uncirculated or ‘BU’ coin is one that has never been in circulation. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. However this year features a new portrayal of St. George and the Dragon, designed by Timothy Noad. The design concentrates on the drama between St. George, his horse and the dragon. St George’s shield was the focus, with the dragon having some freedom. The obverse of the coin features Ian Rank Broadley’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The 2005 £5 coin comes in a plastic capsule along with an original Royal Mint box and certificate of authenticity. Only 1,500 of these coins were struck. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
