Description Bhutan 1 Sertum, dated 1970, were produced by the Bern Mint, Switzerland. Bhutan is a sovereign country in South Asia, located in the eastern Himalayas, famous for its vibrant Buddhist culture. The reverse of the coin features a historic Bhutan seal, surrounded with Bhutanese legends. The obverse of the coin features a bust of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, with the inscription “BHUTAN SERTUM” and date of issue, 1970. Jigme Dorji Wangchuck was the third monarch of the small kingdom. During his reign he initiated significant economic and political reforms and infrastructure improvements, particularly in remote areas. He strengthened Bhutan’s diplomatic ties, particularly with India and the United States of America. His contributions earned him the title “Father of Modern Bhutan.” These coins are preowned and have a limited mintage of 3111. All of our gold coins are verified for authenticity by our experienced team. Any coins that fall short of our quality standards are not re-sold.
