Proof Gold Three Coin Sovereign Set 1989
Description 1989 Proof Three Coin Sovereign Set is one of the most collectible of the sovereign sets released by the Royal Mint. Created to commemorate 500 years since the original Sovereign coin was first minted in 1489, the design was only issued as a proof coin and the three coin set has a limited mintage of 10,000. The coin features a unique image of Queen Elizabeth II seated on the throne on the obverse, and the modern coat of arms set upon a Tudor Rose on the reverse. The Tudor Rose harks back to the 1489 coin, released during the reign of Henry VII, and an example of the propaganda wielded at the time of the first Tudor King to unite the country following on from the War of the Roses. All official Royal Mint Sovereigns are minted in 22ct gold and have been so since the original “modern” design was issued in 1817. The coins weigh 7.98g, of which 7.32g is gold and they have a diameter of 22.05mm. This 1989 Proof Three Coin Sovereign Set contains the double sovereign, the sovereign and the half sovereign. These coins benefit from being Capital Gains Tax (CGT) free. All UK gold and silver bullion coins manufactured by the Royal Mint are legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
