King George IV sovereigns have two different portraits: the laureate head, and the bare head portraits. The king thought the laureate head portrait, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci, was not flattering and controversially went outside of the Royal Mint processes to insist a new, more flattering portrait was commissioned, resulting in the bare head portrait. This caused much conflict between the fiery Pistrucci and the designer of his new portrait, William Wyon.
