1880 Sydney Shield Reverse Sovereign PCGS MS63
Struck a year after the Sydney International Exhibition of 1879 (where special proof sovereigns were minted for the event), this 1880 shield sovereign looks today as fresh as it did when it came off the dies on Macquarie St, Sydney. Fully lustrous and well-struck, it is the equal-finest graded by PCGS, with only two other examples available in this grade (10/19). Overall, it is a very difficult coin to acquire, and the best that I have handled since 2007. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
