2021 Britannia Two Ounce Silver Proof Coin
Silver proof two ounce 2021 Britannia and lion coin in original presentation box from The Royal Mint. This Five Pound coin is from a limited edition presentation of just 250. It features a new interpretation of the warrior goddess Britannia by P J Lynch. Britannia - the personification of the British Isles - has been a feature of our coinage since Roman times, a figure closely associated with British national identity. She’s shown seated here, wearing a corinthian helmet, a Union Jack shield at her side along with a trident, symbolising her dominion over the seas. She rests her arm on a maned lion, perched at her feet. A powerful heraldic symbol, associated with England since the middle ages, the lion also has a long history on British money. The design is presented on a radial background with the word ‘BRITANNIA’ around and the date - 2021 - below. Lynch’s special design is paired with Jody Clark’s definitive portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II: the fifth and final effigy of Her Majesty to appear on UK coins. The reverse legend flags the face value: £5 / Five Pounds. These 2oz coins are struck in exactly 62.42 grams of .999 fine silver for an actual silver weight of 62.36 grams or two troy ounces. The 40.00 millimetre surface, together with the fine proof finish, mean that you can enjoy both designs as the artists intended. A very small number of these coins have been offered in this limited edition, individual presentation and this one comes in its original packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed.
