Two ounce silver bullion coins from The Royal Mint featuring the White Greyhound of Richmond. These pieces comes from the popular Queen's Beasts series, inspired by the heraldic creatures that populate the coats of arms of Her Majesty's royal and noble ancestors. A runaway success for The Royal Mint, their beastly coin series included ten designs, plus a 'completer', released between 2016 and 2021. The greyhound that appears on the reverse of this coin was a symbol associated with both the House of York and the House of Lancaster during the Wars of the Roses, connoting loyalty and vigour. Henry VII, the first Tudor king, adopted the dog to indicate his descent from both rival houses and it's a crowned Tudor rose that appears on the shield in this dynamic design. This motif, shown with a chainmail backdrop, is the work of Jody Clark who is also the artist behind the portrait of Her Majesty the Queen shown on the obverse of these pre-owned coins. From an unlimited mintage, this Five Pound piece is composed of 62.42 grams of .999 fine silver. It has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres, similar to the 1oz edition but boasting a double thickness which lends a satisfying weight.
