2019 Una And The Lion Two Ounce Silver Proof Great Engravers Coin NGC Graded PF 69 Ultra Cameo
Two ounce silver proof Una and the Lion coin from The Royal Mint, graded PF 69 Ultra Cameo by NGC. This silver £5 coin was the first release in the blockbuster Great Engravers series, celebrating some of the UK's finest coinage design. This edition is a tribute to the work of William Wyon who was Chief Engraver to The Royal Mint in the early nineteenth century. Among his masterpieces is a gold Five Pound coin, first stuck in 1839 in the early years of Queen Victoria's reign. These rare coins, intended for collectors, showed the young Queen in the guise of Una, a character from Edmund Spencer's The Faerie Queene. She holds and orb and sceptre - symbols of monarchy - and leads on a maned lion, representing England. Wyon's design was groundbreaking and original examples sell for hundreds of thousands of Pounds today. The Great Engravers collection made it possible to own this much-admired piece, remastered and restruck on a range of proof coins in 2019. This 62.42 gram .999 fine silver edition features a reinterpretation of Wyon's work, paired with Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to the obverse. The reverse features a special 'soft' proof finish that resembles the historic coins. These coins proved incredibly popular when they were first issued and the demand for them remains strong, particularly graded editions. This one comes sealed in its NGC holder, preserving the high-quality finish and allowing you to appreciate this beautiful design in all its glory.
