Silver proof 2018 five ounce Britannia from a limited edition of just 650 pieces. These 5oz Britannias became an annual issue in 2013. For the most part, they have only been offered with a proof finish, their 65.00 surface area allowing collectors to appreciate new annual designs in all their glory. Over the years, numbers have reduced significantly, making recently issued five ounce Britannias rare and sought after. The obverse of this piece features Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem, the legend flagging the face value: £10 / Ten Pounds. The reverse is the work of British sculptor and illustrator David Lawrence. According to the information booklet provided with this coin. Lawrence had several family members pose for reference shots which he utilised to create his profile portrait of the female personification of the British Isles. In it, Britannia wears her traditional plumed helmet, decorated with a band of oak leaves and acorns, a sprig of national flowers - roses, thistles, shamrocks and a daffodil - twined around. It’s a graceful entry to the Britannia series, signed ‘D.L’ by the artist just below the figures’s chin. The composition and date are included in the reverse legend. This collectors’ coin is struck in 156.30 grams of .999 fine silver. It’s offered in its original presentation packaging from The Royal Mint which contains an information booklet and a numbered certificate of authenticity.
