This is not your average quarter-ounce bullion Britannia. In 1941, the SS Gairsoppa, carrying vital supplies for wartime Britain, was sunk to a depth of 4,700 metres by a German U-boat. 70 years later, an intrepid expedition recovered much of the silver on board, and a small portion reached its original destination: The Royal Mint. This coin is, therefore, struck in the shipwrecked silver recovered from Gairsoppa - given new life with Philip Nathan's maritime Britannia on its reverse. A total of 7.86 grams of silver recovered from the shipwreck is used, resulting in a 22.00 millimetre UK coin, which is 0.25 troy ounces. Spink suggests that fewer than 20,000 of these 1/4 ounce Gairsoppa coins were struck. We also offer this unique bullion coin capsulated in the original illustrated folder, complete with a DVD copy of Discovery's 'SILVER RUSH' documentary: telling the story of this silver's daring recovery. A silver coin with a fascinating historical tale to tell. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
