1998 silver proof Britannia, complete with the original box. 1998 was only the second year that The Royal Mint's flagship Britannia coins were issued in silver, following the success of the gold Britannia, which was first released in 1987. This 1998 proof issue was struck alongside bullion coins in one troy ounce .958 'Britannia' silver, its fine finish designating it as a collectors piece. The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse features the instantly recognisable standing Britannia design by Philip Nathan: a motif that has become closely associated with these popular UK coins. With just 2,168 of these silver proof Britannias issued in 1998, they remain a sought-after piece for fans of the series.
