Platinum proof 2023 Britannia coin from The Royal Mint from a limited edition of just 200. 2023 proof Britannias are the first coins of this type to feature the new portrait of King Charles III on the obverse by Martin Jennings and also have a unique reverse which is only seen on this year's edition. The ever-popular Britannia was first released in 1987 by the UK's Royal Mint as a vehicle for gold investment with silver editions joining the range in 1997. It was not until 2018 that these coins were issued in platinum. This piece is struck in 7.85 grams of 999.5 fine platinum with a proof finish. The coin measures 20.00 millimetres from milled edge to milled edge and is denominated at £25. Proof Britannias have had a one-off design for each year, with this 2023 edition featuring an aquatic-inspired design by Jonathan Olliffe. His reverse shows the warrior goddess holding shield and trident, driving a chariot, pulled by scaled seahorses which rear above the waves. Olliffe’s unusual design is paired with the official UK coin effigy of King Charles III, which was designed by Martin Jennings. This scarce, pre-owned Royal Mint coin comes in its original presentation packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed.
