2023 Britannia One Ounce Silver Proof Coin
Silver proof one ounce Britannia for 2023 from a limited edition presentation of 3,500. 2023 proof Britannias are the first coins of this type to feature the new portrait of King Charles III on the obverse by Martin Jennings and also have a unique reverse which is only seen on this year's edition. The ever-popular Britannia was first released in 1987 by the UK's Royal Mint as a vehicle for gold investment, but silver proof editions were not unveiled until 1997. Since 2013, proof Britannias have had a one-off design for each year, with this 2023 edition featuring an aquatic-inspired design by Jonathan Olliffe. Britannia's role is a defender of British shores, and Olliffe's engraving deviates from the usual equine subject matter by rendering the warrior goddesses' horses as scaled seahorses, rearing above the waves. She is seen driving her chariot, holding her Union Jack shield and her iconic trident. Olliffe's design is paired with the official UK coin effigy of King Charles III, which was designed by Martin Jennings. During the production process, these coins are struck several times using hand-polished dies, giving them an appealing contrast between the frosted devices and mirrored surfaces. Prior to 2013, silver Britannias had a fineness of 958.3, but now they're struck in 999 fine silver. Each coin weighs 31.21 grams and measures 38.61 millimetres in diameter, having a face value of £2 / Two Pounds. Your CGT-exempt coin is issued in the original black presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity from The Royal Mint.
