From a limited edition of 2,688: the one ounce Lunar Tigar coin in silver proof. 2022 marks the 'Year of the Tiger' in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, and The Royal Mint celebrated this occasion with the issue of a collection of proof coins and brilliant uncirculated coins. Part of the popular 'Shengxiao' coin collection, this 1 ounce Lunar Tiger is the ninth release in the series but is actually the third animal in the zodiac: this peculiarity exists because the Mint began the series in 2014, which is in the middle of the lunar cycle. Each annual release since has infused traditional Chinese culture with modern British design elements and the Year of the Tiger range is no different. Tigers have a reputation for power, force and bravery, with those born in Lunar Tiger years believed to be adventurous, courageous and charming. David Lawrence was tasked with adapting these traits onto the reverse engraving of this stunning coin, which shows a pouncing tiger with teeth bared alongside the lettering 'YEAR OF THE TIGER 2022' and the Chinese character '虎'. On the coin's obverse, Jody Clark's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is visible, which is the fifth and final design of the Queen to appear on UK coinage. Each 99.9% fine 1oz coin measures 38.61 millimetres in diameter and weighs a total of 31.21 grams, giving it an actual silver weight of exactly one troy ounce. The coin you'll receive will be encapsulated and accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity, as shown in the display image. No box is provided.
