2020 Winnie The Pooh Fifty Pence Gold Proof Coin
The first in a nine part series from The Royal Mint, this Winnie the Pooh gold proof coin celebrates the upcoming 95th anniversary of A. A. Milne’s beloved stories. The character of Winnie the Pooh was based on a teddy bear owned by Milne’s son Christopher. This bear, which is on display in New York, was named after a Canadian black bear called Winnie which Christopher visited at London Zoo, and a swan named Pooh. While the character was named after this toy bear, the illustrations for the original stories, and this series of Fifty Pence pieces, were inspired by artist E. H. Shepard’s own son’s teddy bear, Growler. In this design, Winnie the Pooh is sat contentedly next to a spilt jar of honey, happily licking his paw. The inscription ‘Winnie the Pooh’ is positioned above the pot, and a bumble bee floats lazily past. The presence of a meandering bumble bee is a common feature across all of the Winnie the Pooh 50p pieces in this series. On the obverse of this gold proof coin is Jody Clark’s official effigy of The Queen which has been used on UK coinage since 2015. Only 535 of these Winnie the Pooh coins were minted in gold proof, and this one comes in its original packaging with numbered certificate of authenticity. Struck in 22 carat gold and weighing 15.50 grams, this 50p has a precious metal content of 14.21 grams and a diameter of 21.30 milimetres. It is finished to proof quality and makes a great addition to any Winnie the Pooh collection. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
