The sixth release in The Royal Mint's lunar collection is the 2019 Year of the Pig coin, with this edition being a pre-owned silver proof one ounce edition. From a limited edition presentation of just 3,888, this collectable UK coin is struck to proof standard using hand-polished dies. In Chinese culture, the number '8' is believed to bring good fortune, so the choice of the issue limit number with three of these numbers is very deliberate. The Shengxiao Collection is 12-year series that charts the cycle of the Chinese zodiac with collectable coins inspired by the animal signs and their attributes. The series began in 2014 and has featured designs that combine Chinese artistic motifs with British ones. The reverse of this Year of the Pig coin, created by Harry Brockway, shows five piglets feeding from their sow. Family is important to those born under the sign of the pig and five can be a lucky number in Chinese culture depending on the context. It's a nighttime scene, the stars above referencing the zodiac, shining on an English country cottage, surrounded by hydrangeas: another symbol of good fortune. Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse, alongside the face value of £2 / Two Pounds. This coin is struck in 31.21 grams of 999 silver and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. It comes in the original red Royal Mint presentation packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed.
