1/10th oz platinum proof Britannia from a limited edition of just 691 coins. Proof Britannias offered by The Royal Mint in 2007 feature a special one-year-only reverse to celebrate the 20th anniversary of these influential Bullion coins. This is the work of Christopher Le Brun and shows Britannia without her signature helmet, leaning against a tree, a lion resting at her feet. In the distance, we can see cliffs and a sailing ship at sea. Britannia herself, facing right, holds a trident and a laurel sprig, an oval shaped Union Jack shield resting by her side. It’s a design inspired by historical depictions of this female personification of the British Isles on UK coinage. The legend around indicates the composition of this coin: ’TENTH OUNCE PLATINUM’ with ‘BRITANNIA’ to the right and the date below. This coin is composed of 3.11 grams of 999.5 fine platinum and has a diameter of 16.45 millimetres. The face value is displayed on the obverse as £10 / Ten Pounds. The obverse also features a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by the artist Ian Rank-Broadley. Its the fourth official effigy to be used on her circulating, commemorative and bullion coins, issued in the UK and was in use between 1998 and 2015. This tenth ounce proof coin was the first of its kind to be issued by The Royal Mint in platinum and comes in its original presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
