1834 William IV first currency issue Halfcrown with slanted 'W.W.' to the truncation of the portrait. This is the rarer variant of the 1834 Halfcrown, which displays an uncrowned portrait of King William IV to the obverse, engraved by Royal Mint Chief Engraver William Wyon. On the more common variety, Wyon's initials - 'W.W.' - are rendered in block capitals, but on this type they are shown in a slanting script. Bull rates script initials as rare, and these coins are certainly more difficult to find in high grade. Collectors appreciate the attractive mantled shield reverse design by Jean Baptiste Merlen and the relatively low mintage. A very collectable piece.
