1649-1660 Charles I Cast Silver Royalist Badge
Charles I cast silver Royalist badge by Thomas Rawlins. This attractive piece features a high-relief portrait of the King, draped and armoured, with a falling lace collar to one side, and a crowned shield of royal arms, surrounded by a garter to the other. Struck in sterling silver, this medal features a small suspension loop through the lugs to the side, and the bottom appears to have been tidily removed. The level of detail here is excellent, with fine crosshatching to the reverse still preserved. These badges are often dated to the Interregnum period, following the execution of Charles I, although the design may date back to the mid-1640s.
