This token dates from the Bihar Famine of 1873–1874, when drought and crop failure threatened the lives of more than 20 million people in British India. Struck at the Calcutta Mint, the token is believed to have been produced, according to Pridmore, for use by a famine relief society as part of large-scale aid efforts, including food-for-work programmes organised by the colonial administration. Dated 1874, the brass One Rupee grain token features a large central hole, with 'FAMINE' and the date on one side, and 'GRAIN TOKEN – ONE RUPEE' within a framed panel on the other. A scarce and highly collectable piece for collectors of artefacts associated with British India. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
