Siege and capture of Seringapatam silver medal, struck at the Calcutta mint. This campaign medal was issued to all British and Indian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Seringapatam, which marked the final confrontation of the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War. Commissioned by the British East India Company, the medal, designed by Conrad Heinrich Küchler, depicts the British lion, attacking a tiger, the emblem of Tipu Sultan of Mysore, who died in the battle. The reverse depicts Tipu's besieged stronghold. This second issue was minted in Calcutta in 1808 and awarded to troops of the Bengal Presidency. Some 2,786 silver medals were issued to native non-commissioned officers and other ranks. This fascinating, high-grade Indian medal is supplied sealed in its NGC holder.
