Graded PF 70 Ultra Cameo by NGC, this premium one ounce 24-carat gold proof Queen's Beasts coin is one of just 390 issued. It features the White Lion of Mortimer which was the seventh proof release in the popular 11-part range from the UK's Royal Mint. Queen's Beasts coins celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's royal and noble ancestors through the heraldic creatures that feature on their coats of arms. They're based on a menagerie of statues that guarded Westminster Abbey during Her Majesty's 1953 coronation. The White Lion on this stunning £100 coin is a fearsome creature associated with the family of Anne de Mortimer, through whom Henry VII, the first Tudor king, claimed royal descent. This design by Jody Clark shows the lion with one paw resting on the shield, emblazoned with a white rose, encircled by a golden sun: a powerful symbol linked to the House of York. Unlike the Lion of England, this Queen's Beast is uncrowned. Clark is also the artist behind the portrait of The Queen that features on the obverse: the fifth and final definitive effigy used on UK coinage. This coin is struck in 31.21 grams of 999.9 gold to proof standard and measures 32.69 millimetres from milled edge to milled edge. This Queen's Beasts coin is among the lowest mintage 1oz piece issued by The Royal Mint in this series. We're offering this 2020 coin sealed in its Numismatic Guaranty Company holder, displaying a classic brown label.
