This independently graded gold proof one ounce Unicorn of Scotland coin forms part of The Royal Mint's Queen's Beasts series. The highly popular series ran from 2017 to 2021, with a total of 11 coins released depicting a number of heraldic beasts associated with Queen Elizabeth II's ancestors. The collection was designed by esteemed artist Jody Clark, and features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty on the coin's obverse with a classic heraldic image on the reverse. In this PF 69 edition of the series, the coin captures a depiction of the unicorn wrapped in a golden chain leaping over a shield. The mythical unicorn is Scotland's national animal, signalling purity, innocence, masculinity, and power. These symbols of heraldry, myth and ancient legend date back to the 13th century to King Alexander III's reign, and are now immortalised in coinage. The specifications of this collectable proof coin are a weight of 31.21 grams, a diameter of 32.69 millimetres and an alloy composed of 999.9 fine (24 carat) gold. It's presented sealed in its Numismatic Guaranty Company protective holder, its pristine proof finish carefully preserved. This scarce collector's piece comes from a limited edition of just 400.
