Two 999.9 gold proof 2023 Petition Crown 1kg coins from The Royal Mint's Great Engravers series. Just six sets issued worldwide! The Petition Crown is the work of seventeenth century English engraver Thomas Simon. Simon collaborated with the Roundheads during the English Civil War and was rewarded with the position of Chief Engraver to the Royal Mint, then based at the Tower of London. Simon's beautiful designs demonstrate his skills but after the restoration of the monarchy his work was passed over, in favour of John Roettiers, a Dutch engraver, loyal to the new King, Charles II. The 1663 Petition Crown is Simons' response to this slight and features a remarkable inscribed edge, pleading his case and demonstrating his technical mastery. The raised edge lettering has been painstakingly recreated on these two 2023 coins using long-forgotten techniques. One piece features Simon's extraordinary portrait of old King Charles while the other shows his quartered arms design, a tiny St George in the centre. Both are paired with Martin Jennings' definitive portrait of King Charles III. These 1,000 gram proof coins are struck 24 carat gold and come together in a bespoke presentation box from The Royal Mint. Appreciate these remarkable, remastered designs in large scale with this ultra-exclusive proof set. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
