2019 Una And The Lion Five Ounce Gold Proof Great Engravers Coin
5oz gold proof Una and the Lion coin from a highly sought after limited edition mintage of just 65 pieces. Among the most highly sought after modern British coins of all time, this beautiful piece is the first release in The Royal Mint's blockbuster Great Engravers series which offers exclusive coinage modelled on the great numismatic designs of the past. So far, the Great Engravers collection has focused on the work of William Wyon who was Chief Engraver to the Mint in the early nineteenth century. He designed Una and the Lion for a gold Five Pound coin in 1839, included in the first specimen sets issued in the reign of Queen Victoria. The design would have been paired with the artists Young Head of the new Queen and shows Victoria in the guise of Lady Una, a character in Edmund Spencer's epic The Faerie Queene. The young woman guides a lion with her sceptre, interpreted as the lion of England making a clear statement about Victoria's reign. Very few of the original 1839 coins were struck but this 2019 version gives collectors the opportunity to enjoy Wyon's masterpiece, remastered with the benefit of twentieth century minting technology. This five ounce example is among the most exclusive of the range. It's composed of 156.30 grams of 999.9 (24 carat) gold and has a diameter of 50.00 millimetres. The obverse which shows Jody Clark's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II denotes the face value of this piece as £500 / Five Hundred Pounds. It comes in its original Royal Mint presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
