2014 Lunar Year Of The Horse Tenth Ounce Gold Brilliant Uncirculated Coin
In 2014, The Royal Mint stared a brand new coin series to celebrate the Chinese lunar calendar. Christened the 'Shēngxiào' collection, each year has a lunar animal allocated to it, with this 2014 BU gold 1/10oz coin showing the Year of the Horse. The rat is actually the first animal in the lunar cycle, so The Royal Mint's series started in the middle of the cycle. Both sides of this collectable UK coin are struck to a brilliant uncirculated finish, which is a better standard than ordinary circulation coins and investment bullion coins. Sino-British artist Wuon-Gean Ho was commissioned by the Mint to design this coin's reverse, and it shows a galloping horse looking back upon itself. Beneath the horse's hooves is the famous Uffington Horse, which is seen on the chalk hills in Oxfordshire. The obverse shows Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. During the production process, the 24 carat gold coins are stuck twice to give a 'brilliant uncirculated' finish, with specifications consisting of a weight of 3.13 grams and a diameter of 16.50 millimetres. A total of 1,779 of these collectable Year of the Horse coins were issued by The Royal Mint, and you'll receive your coin complete in the original presentation box with certificate.
