2003 Gold Full Sovereign Elizabeth II Bullion Coin Carded
2003 gold Sovereign in the original Royal Mint card. This 2003 coin is one of 43,230 uncirculated Sovereigns confirmed to have been issued in this year, much lower than the published 100,000 coin issue limit. 2003 Sovereigns feature Ian Rank-Broadley's instantly recognisable portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, used on UK coins between 1998 and 2015. 2003 was the year that Her Majesty celebrated 50 years since her coronation. She succeeded to the throne following the passing of her father, George VI and was crowned the following year at Westminster Abbey. Rank-Broadley's portrait is paired with Benedetto Pistrucci's classic Saint George and the dragon design, created for the first milled Sovereigns of 1817. This modern Royal Mint coin conforms to the same specifications as those historic issues, being struck in 7.98 grams of 22-carat gold.
