1982 gold proof Five Sovereign, graded PF 69 Ultra Cameo by NGC. The 1982 Five Sovereign is one of the first decimal Quintuple Sovereigns issued by The Royal Mint. These gold proof coins were originally struck for inclusion in Sovereign sets, with 2,500 issued in 1982. This large 22-carat gold Five Pound coin features Arnold Machin's elegant portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, paired with the classic Saint George and the dragon reverse design, created by Benedetto Pistrucci for the first modern Sovereigns and Five Sovereigns. Weighing in at 39.94 grams, these gold coins were among the largest struck by The Royal Mint in the 1980s and remain highly sought after by serious collectors.
