Sovereign-sized Cypriot proof 22-carat gold medal dedicated to Makarios III, Archbishop and President of the Republic of Cyprus between 1960 and 1977. These 7.98 gram collectables were produced by the Monnaie de Paris and designed by Greek sculptor Basil Philiares. The obverse features a left-facing bust of Makarios III with a Greek legend around. The reverse shows a double-headed eagle coat of arms of the Church of Cyprus with a crown above and the date (1966) around. These medals are struck to the same specifications as a UK Sovereign with Half Sovereign and Five Sovereign pieces also produced by the Paris Mint. These unusual Cypriot coins are pre-owned and offered in high grade, making an interesting addition to your collection of gold coins.
