Joint Top Pop MS64 1922 Sydney mint gold Sovereign (S 4003, Marsh 282 - R3). The original recorded mintage for this year was 578,000 though surviving examples are regarded as extremely rare. A large proportion of the issue is understood to have been melted down, resulting in 1922-S being regarded as one of the key dates in the George V Sovereign series. This Sydney mint coin features the classic Saint George and the dragon reverse with an 'S' mintmark, paired with Bertram Mackennal's portrait of King George V. This example has been graded MS64 by PCGS (#276110.64/50931619), making this piece joint Top Pop at the time of writing.
