Graded by PCGS, this 1902 Double Sovereign, also known as a gold Two Pound coin, was issued to mark the Coronation year of King Edward VII. Edward came to the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Victoria, in early 1901, though his Coronation was delayed until August 1902 due to illness. These handsome gold coins were struck in 22-carat gold. They display George William de Saulles' royal portrait on the obverse, paired with the classic Saint George design on the reverse. With a modest mintage of 46,000, this 1902 issue is the only currency-strike gold £2 of Edward VII's reign. This PCGS-certified example is a key piece for any Sovereign or pre-war gold collection.
