Collectable gold Third Guinea of King George III. This 1806 issue features the second laureate head of the reigning monarch, designed by Nathaniel Marchant and engraved by Lewis Pingo. The reverse displays the recognisable crown design used on all Third Guineas. These small gold coins were minted only between 1797 and 1813 during a period when precious metals were scarce in Britain and banknotes replaced most coins. Only Half Guineas and Third Guineas were produced in 1806, with a total gold output of £316,936 for this calendar year. These coins remain collectable and sought-after.
