2018 First World War Armistice £5 Silver Proof Coin Set
The Royal Mint announced in 2014 that they would commemorate the events of the First World War with a special five-year coin series. Each six-coin set would commemorate a specific part of The Great War, marking the outbreak in September 1914 to the armistice in November 1918. This 2018 silver proof Crown coin set was released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the November Armistice, which brought the fighting on the western front to an end. The themes of remembrance and peace are beautifully depicted on the reverses of these £5 silver coins. On the six reverse designs, you can see the poppy wreath design, an image of the War Memorial Cenotaph in London, poppies amongst barbed wire, the Imperial War Museums, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Dove of Peace. These moving reverse engravings were done by the Royal Mint design team, which includes David Cornell, Edwina Ellis, John Bergdahl, David Rowlands and David Lawrence. Each coin has Jody Clark's engraving of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, which is the fifth official UK coin portrait of the monarch. Specifications for each proof coin are a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and a weight of 28.28 grams. They're individually composed of 0.925 fine sterling silver, which gives each coin a fine silver weight of 0.8410 troy ounces. You'll receive the certificate of authenticity and the original presentation box as standard, with a limited edition presentation of just 593 sets. Included in our price is free shipping to UK addresses. A fitting way to mark the centenary of the end of The Great War.
