2009 Britannia Four Coin Silver Proof Set
2009 silver Britannia sets from The Royal Mint featuring 1oz, 1/2oz. 1/4oz and 1/10oz proof coins. Just 2,500 of these collectable sets were issued by the UK's national mint in 2009 and ours come in the original presentation packaging with a certificate of authenticity enclosed. The four coins in this set all feature the image of Britannia driving a chariot pulled by two rearing horses, used previously in 1997 and 1999. This is the work of British sculptor Philip Nathan and takes inspiration from the legend of Boudicca, the ancient British queen who led an uprising against occupying Roman forces. The charioteer design is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, seen on all four 2009-dated coins, along with the denomination (£2 to 20p). From 1997 until 2012 silver Britannias were struck in 95.8% fine silver, an alloy known as 'Britannia silver' which is purer than sterling silver. In total the coins in this pre-owned set offer 57.50 grams of pure silver between them. Please note that some of these 2008 coin sets will display toning: a natural process that impacts silver coins.
