Special edition Britanna gold proof coin set in the original Royal Mint packaging, from a limited presentation. These pre-owned UK coins have a unique reverse design which is only seen in this year, with four coins available in this box set: one ounce, half ounce, quarter ounce and tenth ounce. Their collectability is enhanced even more by the fact that 2005-dated gold bullion Britannia were not issued, making this product one of the very few instances to acquire gold Britannias with this date. Like the traditional standing Britannia on other editions, the unique reverse was designed by esteemed Royal Mint engraver Philip Nathan. It shows the legendary goddess seated, facing left, in classical garb. She retains her Corinthian helmet, her trident and her Union Jack shield, propped at her side. The design is remarkably similar to John Roettier's copper Halfpenny issued in the 1670s during the reign of King Charles II. Nathan's design is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to the 'tails' side, which was in use on UK coins from 1998 to 2015. Each coin is struck to a top-quality proof finish, obtained using highly polished dies during production to give an attractive frosted finish. The fine gold weight for all the coins combined is 1.85 troy ounces, with a total weight of 62.77 grams. Unlike more recent Britannia coins, these proof versions are struck in 22-carat gold, alloyed with silver, giving them a brilliant yellow gold appearance. Despite the issue limit of 1,500, only 1,439 of these sets were issued worldwide. Exempt from capital gains tax and VAT for UK residents.
