2003 Britannia Four Coin Silver Proof Set
Silver proof four coin Britannia sets, issued in 2003 by The Royal Mint. These sets include 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz Britannias, all dated 2003 and struck in 95.8% silver with a proof finish. In the early 2000s, silver Britannia sets were only issued in years when the reverse design was changed. 2003 Britannias feature a one-year-only reverse, created by British sculptor Philip Nathan. Britannia - the female personification of the British Isles - is shown in a profile portrait, her Corinthian helmet pushed back on her head. A stylised wave motif washes over the surface of the coin. Nathan's special Britannia design is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive coinage effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, scaled for each of the four coins in this set. The Half Ounce and Quarter Ounce silver coins were not available individually, only in these sought-after collectors sets. Only 3,669 silver Britannia sets issued in this year and these are becoming increasingly difficult to get hold of. We are offering 2003 4-coin Britannia sets in the original packing with a certificate of authenticity enclosed. Please note that these are pre-owned coins which may show signs of toning: a natural process that affects older silver coins.
