2001 Britannia One Ounce Silver Proof Coin
Collectable silver proof 1oz 2001 Britannia from a limited mintage. This British coin features an alternate reverse design, created by sculptor Philip Nathan. This depiction of Britannia calls to mind the spectacular 1839 Una and the Lion £5 piece, showing Britannia in medieval garb, holding a trident and shield, the British lion at her heel. It's a stylised engraving with unusual vertical inscriptions, used only in this year. The same design was also used on 2001 bullion Britannias but is seen to its best effect on this proof £2 coin, struck in one troy ounce of .958 'Britannia' silver. 3,047 of these proof Britannias were issued by The Royal Mint in 2001, and our pre-owned examples come in the original presentation case with a certificate of authenticity enclosed.
