2001 Gold Proof Britannia Four Coin Set
Gold proof four coin Britannia set from a limited presentation of just 1,000 issued by the UK's national mint. Four coins with one-off designs are presented in this limited edition red leather boxed collection: the 2001 1oz gold proof Britannia, 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz. For a number of years, The Royal Mint was in the routine of issuing Britannia coins with the classic 'Standing Britannia' design in even years and unique reverses on odd years. These 2001 Britannias were the second time the Mint issued a one-off design on its flagship troy ounce gold coin, with veteran designer Philip Nathan responsible for the modernist reverse. In a contemporary twist, Britannia is seen facing to the left behind her Union Jack shield with the lion stalking to her side, impersonating the legendary 'Una and the Lion' engraving seen on William Wyon's 1839 gold £5 (Quintuple Sovereign). This stylised reverse is complemented by Ian Rank Broadley's engraving of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, which is the fourth official UK coin effigy of Her Majesty. Each coin is struck to a high-quality proof finish, obtained using highly polished dies during production to give an attractive frosted finish. To further enhance the set's collectability, the coins' reverses are fully matt proof compared to the obverses, which have the conventional raised matt proof features with a highly polished field. The fine gold weight for all these pre-owned coins combined is 1.85 troy ounces, with a total weight of 62.77 grams. Unlike more recent Britannia coins, these proof versions are struck in 91.67% pure gold, alloyed with silver, giving them a brilliant yellow gold appearance. Being pound sterling gold coins, they're exempt from both CGT and VAT. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
