1998 Gold Proof Britannia Four Coin Set
Collectable four-coin gold proof 1998 Britannia set from the UK’s national mint. This boxed Britannia set contains a 1998 1oz Britannia, a 1/2oz Britannia, a 1/4oz Britannia and a 1/10oz Britannia, all struck in 916.7 fine gold. This was the only proof Britannia set offered in this year. These coins all feature Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to the obverse (the first time that this effigy was used on Britannias). The reverse shows Philip Nathan’s classic ‘standing Britannia’ design, alongside the composition and date. The first Britannia bullion coins were issued by The Royal Mint in 1987 as a premium option for investors. The specification of these coins was modified slightly in 2013, changing the fineness from 22-carat to 24-carat while the gold content stayed the same. In total, the actual gold weight of the four coins in this 1998 set is 57.75 grams or 1.8567 troy ounces. Each of these Britannias are minted to The Royal Mint’s strict specifications with a fine proof finish. Proof coins are intended for collectors, struck multiple times with hand prepared dies for a high-shine appearance, rich in detail. These coins come in their original presentation case with capsules intact and a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed. Just 750 of these sets were issued worldwide and this example is in pristine condition, making a great addition to you collection of British proof coins. VAT and Capital Gains Tax free.
