The 2020 Brilliant Uncirculated Queen Five Pound Coin is the first release in the Royal Mint’s Music Legends Series. Struck to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the rock band Queen, it’s the first time ever that a British rock band has featured on UK coinage. Formed in 1970 in London, Queen have had an immeasurable impact on the world of music, revolutionising recording techniques and stage performances. With vocalist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, John Deacon on bass and drummer Roger Taylor, the band became one of the biggest bands in history, selling over 250 million records. Designed by artist Chris Facey, the reverse of this commemorative UK coin pays tribute to all four Queen members. There’s a piano for Mercury, a guitar for May, a drum for Taylor, and a bass guitar for Deacon. The text “QUEEN” is positioned prominently in the centre of the coin, underlined with a microphone stand. To complement this attractive reverse, the other side of the coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. It’s the fifth British coinage portrait of Her Majesty and it was designed by Jody Clark. The coin specifications are a weight of 28.28 grams, a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and an alloy of cupronickel. You’ll receive your Queen £5 coin in a limited edition slipcase, including a protective coin capsule. Available with free delivery to UK addresses from The Britannia Coin Company.
